Perhaps no sector of ministry faces greater challenges today in the postmodern world than student pastors. Given the messages, with which students are inundated every day, at no time have students needed the powerful message of the Gospel than today. The message of the crucified Christ, the intersection of man’s deep sinfulness and God’s unfathomable grace, provides the needed relief for a hurting generation.

Still, the challenge remains about how to see the Gospel amplified in our ministries and how to see it applied in the different issues students face. In an effort to see the Gospel amplified and applied in student ministry, the Cathedral Church of the Advent presents Rooted: A Theology Conference for Student Ministry. Rooted aims to provide an opportunity for student ministers to consider the Gospel message and biblical theology in relation to their ministry to students.

DATES: Tuesday, August 10 – Thursday, August 12, 2010

COST: Full Conference: $200 (June 1 forward). The cost includes conference admission, light breakfast, and dinner on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

Full Day: $100
(includes all day sessions, dinner, and night session for one day)

Partial Day: $75
(includes only day session for one day, no dinner or night sessions)
* Full refunds for cancellations will not be given after August 1.

  • Need to be refreshed by the message of God’s grace
  • Want to serve students better with the Gospel

HOST: The Cathedral Church of the Advent, located in downtown Birmingham, is a church emphasizing biblical theology and the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why another conference?

The hope of Rooted is simply to proclaim that the message of the crucified Christ not only belongs in student ministry, but forms its only center. Since the Church’s beginnings, the Gospel has presented a challenge. Many, fearing its foolishness, shy away from what Paul describes as the “message of the cross”, which simultaneously reveals the depth of our sinfulness and the unending love of the Father. In its place, “a different gospel” takes root, marginalizing Jesus to either a therapeutic life-coach or a mere example for our moral performance. more...
